I recently read an article which was medically reviewed by a doctor who had an impressive bunch of letters behind his name. The article was basically stating that alternative methods for dealing with high cholesterol are possible but at the end of the reading experience it becomes clear that the article was really there to tout the benefits of statin drugs for lowering cholesterol while diminishing the benefits of dietary and lifestyle changes. This article moreover had the nerve to strongly imply that alternative treatments such as a plant based diet, pure water, and regular exercise might put you at risk of nasty side effects. All the while it continued to imply that statin drugs were free of these dangerous concerns.

Have you ever read your pharmeceutical cholesterol lowering drug label? If you haven’t please take the time to do so now. You will notice that there are a host of dangerous side effects listed on each label and the worst side effect listed is death. It seems to me that these unsavory side effects merit the label “DANGEROUS” on every exceedingly high priced prescription bottle. Shall we put this same label on a Sunkist Navel Orange? I don’t think so!

Doctors and Big Pharma don’t make billion dollar profits on their laboratory made synthetic drugs if nobody is sick. Sometimes they can convince you that you are sick through targeted advertising campaigns so that you are persuaded that you desperately need their outrageously high priced drugs, but more often than not they don’t need to convince you that you are sick because your unhealthy lifestyle has done that for them. All they really have to do is sell you on the fact that they have a magic pill that will make you all better.

Statin drugs are no different. They mask the uncomfortable symptoms caused by your unhealthy animal based diet, your heavy consummation of high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, milk and eggs, in addition to your ”couch potato” lifestyle. The drugs do not and cannot heal you but they do cover up the unpleasant symptoms, nevertheless, the root problem still festers and grows.

If you have high cholesterol today you should know that Big Pharma and the doctors who have been bought by them have a band aid for your problem. It is very expensive and it comes with a host of dreadful consequences, but they stand to make such a profit that you will never get the straight scoop from them. You also will probably never hear from them that your cholesterol could be forever brought into safe levels by simple dietary and lifestyle changes. This dietary reformation would save you a bunch of money each month and a little extra exercise is also free.

The bottom line is that articles such as the one I read which was “medically reviewed” by an “MD, MPH”, that implied that natural health cures such as dietary changes and exercise might come with nasty side effects, while statin drugs made in some remote laboratory pose no such risks, are a common theme among medical practitioners. It is easy to see that the almighty dollar has shaped their opinion as opposed to truth or even common sense. Please do not be duped into giving a high percentage of your weekly paycheck to pay for these dangerous drugs with a profit margin of 500,000 percent or more. Opt instead for a change in diet and lifestyle that will not only save you a bunch of money at the grocery store, but will forever cancel your need to mask unsavory symptoms by the use of high priced synthetic drugs. Any doctor who would deny this is nothing less than a fraud.

For your sake and that of your family, don’t take the bait. Acquire your health and healing by means of a healthy immune system boosted by healthy fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds, whole grains, nuts, sunshine, fresh air, pure water and exercise. The benefits of these will never be matched by a drug made in a laboratory. Lowering your cholesterol is really quite easy if you choose to do it the natural way. It has a near 100 percent success ratio and there are literally no side effects. It really is a no-brainer, isn’t it?

In a sense I am thankful that the food pyramid so long in use has been changed to a simple plate icon called MyPlate according to the first lady, Michelle Obama. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are the main staple on this plate and that is a good thing. I certainly don’t agree with everything on the plate if meat is the means by which we are supposed to get our protein needs filled, nor is milk a wise choice for the vast majority of people since almost everyone is lactose intolerant and certainly everyone that indulges in meat and dairy are also consuming dangerous amounts of hormones and antibiotics. It is, however a step up from the former food pyramid which was woefully inadequate.

One of my problems with MyPlate is that it does not answer the question of why Americans partake of such atrocious diets. I think most of us would would very much like it if our families were able to eat a healthier diet and we know instinctively that fruits and vegetables should be the main part of such a diet. In my opinion the answer to the question of why many Americans don’t eat a healthy diet is simply due to availability and affordability. Have you ever gone to the market and attempted to buy healthy organic fruits and vegetables? The prices are shocking and most Americans are in a struggle just to make ends meet thanks to a deep recession and ridiculous gas prices. It would be difficult to sustain a healthy diet for any length of time due to affordability if you were even a modest family of four. It’s wonderful to encourage Americans to eat a healthy diet of predominantly fruits, vegetables, and whole grains but unless your name is Obama you probably can’t afford to adopt such a lifestyle.

The very administration that is asking that Americans make wise dietary choices is now the head of the same government that has been supporting and subsidizing big food business for many years. They are the ones who subsidize soda pop, genetically modified corn which is used to make the deadly high fructose corn syrup, and hormone and antibiotic laden milk just to name a few. The foods which the government subsidizes and is therefore actually fairly inexpensive compared with good healthy produce, is also loaded with artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, and don’t get me started on all the deadly preservatives such as MSG, as well as a host of other ingredients which you probably can’t pronounce because they are chemicals that were made in a laboratory somewhere.

Fast food restaurants advertise heavily and our lives are bombarded with Big Meal deals which provide up to 2000 mostly empty calories at a whack and you can get all of this for a fraction of what it would cost to eat a healthy meal which Mrs. Obama claims we should opt for. I assume that Americans feel that since their kids have to eat, and since they can’t afford to feed them the way the current administration encourages, then they just kind of have to settle for fast food and the refined and processed foods which the government subsidizes, and therefore makes affordable.

As long as Big Government continues to subsidize Big Food, Americans will remain the fattest, most unhealthy nation on planet earth. We will continue to give large percentages of our paychecks to doctors who really don’t heal but who enjoy big perks from Big Pharma who would like to keep us all on a steady diet of dangerous synthetic drugs made in a laboratory. As long as Big Government continues to support the Monsanto’s of the world, unlabeled, and very dangerous genetically modified organisms will continue to be the ingredients in almost every processed food found at the supermarket. And when these genetically modified seeds are coming exclusively from Monsanto, do you think that such a monopoly will drive food prices down? I don’t think so. Instead of sponsoring this evil empire why doesn’t big government begin to support the local organic farmer through a re-allocation of food subsidies? Why not tax the hell out of dangerous processed food (you do it with liquor and cigarettes) and make local, non GMO organic fruits and vegetables more readily available and affordable?

These and many more issues simply must be addressed (today and not tomorrow) before MyPlate will become more than a fairy tale. Unfortunately, it is this writer’s belief that government has been too long in the hip pocket of Big Agribusiness, Big Food, and Big Pharma and since they have been on the dole for so long it is hard to give up the perks and start concentrating on the health of it’s citizenry. Until these issues and more are recognized and dealt with by the current administration I will save my applause for something a bit more worthy.

An E. coli outbreak in Europe has claimed the life of over twenty people and as of yet the cause is unknown. One thing is for sure, however, only a fool would place the blame on vegetables. It has never been a plant derived disease and never will be. Meat is the culprit and always has been.

This deadly strain seems to be new and seems to be resistant to antibiotics which makes it almost impossible to eradicate. But this is not difficult to understand, since farm factory livestock is continuously pumped full of antibiotics so they won’t die of disease from the filth they live in as well as the unnatural diet of grains which they are forced to eat and cannot digest. Death before the slaughterhouse is unacceptable but also feeding cattle fresh grass from the field is unacceptable because it is too costly. Besides saving money by feeding livestock indigestible food they are also forced to live in unimaginably cramped conditions. They literally stand in their own urine and feces for the majority of their lives. That is why they are force fed antibiotics, and that is why bacteria become immune to these heavy doses of antibiotics.

I don’t know for sure who is responsible for placing the blame for this deadly strain of bacteria on plants instead of meat but it would not be hard to imagine that this nonsense comes from the meat industry. As far as they are concerned feeding cows grain instead of grass as well as ground up parts of other animals cannot be the cause of the E. coli outbreak. They would also sternly deny that the unnatural conditions that this feed causes in the digestive tract of these poor tortured animals could actually be the problem. But getting back to reality for just a moment, the question should be, “How can these animals be fed this unnatural diet and it be expected that resistant strains of deadly bacteria will not be the result?”

Every time you eat a hamburger you are eating the ground up remains of hundreds or even thousands of cattle that have lived and died in these horrible conditions. Do you think the meat industry cares any more about you than they do the cattle that they raise (torture)? Of course not. But even if they did care about you the consumer there is no way to monitor the raising and slaughter of billions of animals that have been abused, drugged, cannibalized, mass produced and mass slaughtered. Step inside a modern day farm factory or a modern day slaughterhouse and what I am saying would soon make perfect sense. If you became aware of how your meat got to your table you would be a fool to eat it and a child abuser if you fed it to your kids.

As long as farm factories exist, animals will be tortured and fed a diet that is totally incompatible with their intestinal tract. As long as they are forced to live the entirety of their lives standing in their own fecal matter they will continue to produce deadly strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria. When their feces is spread over fields of plants grown for human consumption it will always add up to a very bad problem. But this problem is not going to end soon because the antibiotic, hormone, and bacteria laden feces of multiplied billions of farm animals has got to go somewhere. Don’t think for a moment that it only pollutes our drinking water. No, it also becomes part of the plant kingdom.

Keep the vegetables and get rid of the farm factories. This is the simple solution to any and every past or future outbreak of E.coli. As a matter of fact it is the simple answer to almost every disease that plagues this great country.

Another Memorial Day has come and gone and I was reflecting on some of my past blogs which stand as a testament to the freedoms of expression I enjoy here in easy living America. Many of these freedoms, I am ashamed to confess, I take for granted throughout the year. Memorial Day seems to me to be the best time to reflect on the issues of freedom and democracy that I give little attention or thanksgiving for throughout most of the year.

That which I write is at the very least controversial, and at worst quite rebellious. Many would roast me alive if it were legal and many more just wish they could. Many agree with that which I believe and write about and many probably see me as a hypocritical blowhard.

I have written many a scathing entry which could be construed as an attack on the very government who paves my roads. I have voiced my opinions about what I believe to be greed and corruption in our government from the USDA to the FDA and many individuals in between.

I have been very vocal about the horrible abuse of animals raised for human consumption on farm factories all over this great land. I have placed the blame for this carnage on individual Americans who close their eyes to this unnecessary suffering and I have done so relentlessly.

I have made my opinion known to anyone who would listen and many seem to be doing that (although not necessarily agreeing) based on the many folks who read my blogs every day. I am quite aware that many strongly disagree with my beliefs and I certainly can respect that. I am at the same time grateful that they would continue to read my ramblings anyway.

This Memorial Day has given me pause to reflect on my last nine months worth of blog entries which have given me the freedom to express my opinion in no uncertain terms. What I have written would probably be a death sentence if it were written in many countries of the world who do not value freedom in the same way we do in America. For this I am grateful.

I am also mindful that these liberties which so many have sacrificed life and limb to attain for me are transitory at best. Many who have died that freedom might live would be horrified at the state of America at this moment. Many men and women who are at this very moment risking their lives for my liberty cannot possibly have the hindsight that fifty more years will bring.

America (which stands for freedom) is more and more becoming governed by big corporations. The American government who should fear the people is becoming more fearless with each passing hour. When Americans fear the government it spells tyranny. When the government fears the people it spells liberty.

We must continue to wage war on our very own soil for the cause of liberty. Since making judgements as to our and our families health and well being is a fundamental right, we must realize that we are in a colossal battle to maintain this most basic and precious of birthrights. When big government takes control of this right out of the hands of individual citizens and abuses them, they have deprived us of the very core of that which makes America the greatest nation on earth.

In many ways our government has sold out the health of its citizenry in the name of the almighty dollar. This trend continues unabated at this writing. As Americans who live under the umbrella of freedom provided to us by the men and women who have died to secure our liberties, we have a duty to stand for this freedom and make a loud statement to our fearless government that we control you and you do not control us. It is you that had better tread lightly especially when our liberties are at stake and you had better be mindful each and every hour of the sacrifices brave men and women have made to secure your own freedom. You do not have the right nor the power to throw all of that in the dumpster, as it were, and moreover, we will not allow you to do it.

God Bless America

If one had to name a Hot Dog season in the U.S. then that season would run from Memorial Day to Labor Day. In this stretch of time Americans will consume over seven billion hot dogs. With such a tremendous level of hot dog consumption (around 820 per second) it should be a no-brainer to desire to know what it is we Americans will be putting into our mouths over this period.

One famous hot dog brand boasts these ingredients in every delicious hot dog:
Mechanically separated turkey, pork, mechanically separated chicken, water, contains less than 2% of salt, flavor, sodium lactate, corn syrup, dextrose, sodium phosphates, sodium diacetate, sodium ascorbate, sodium nitrite.

The sodium nitrate by the way is a well known cancer causing ingredient which is found in all processed meat. This additive is the reason your meat looks red even after a carcass has been dead for more than a week. Have you ever seen or smelled a dead carcass after a week? Actually at around four days the smell is unbearably nauseating and the meat sure doesn’t look rosy red. Unfortunately every piece of meat you by at the grocery store is over a week old, so you can understand why all the additives with chemical names you can’t pronounce are part of the ingredients. If this were not so, you couldn’t even stray anywhere near a meat counter because the smell would be horrifying. Actually you couldn’t walk anywhere near the supermarket at all because of the horrible smell permeating the walls.

Mechanically Separated Meat

What the heck is mechanically separated meat anyway? I’m glad you asked! When you force the scraps and parts from thousands of cows, pigs, turkeys, chicken bones etc. through a high pressure sieve in order to separate the bone from the flesh a paste-like product emerges. This yummy process is used in the production of almost all hot dogs.

The sad fact is, if every American were forced to step into the world of the meat processing industry there would not be any meat eaters left by the next morning except for knuckleheads who have a couple screws loose anyway. The fact is that this disgusting meat processing world is kept utterly secret from the public at large. I can assure you, however, you would not be feeding this garbage to your kids if you only knew. Unfortunately in this case what you don’t know will kill you anyway.

Besides the fact that the ingredients in a hot dog ought to make you tremble, I would like to ask you to at least recognize and acknowledge the meat on your table for what it really is: “the antibiotic- and pesticide-laden corpse of a tortured animal.” Ingrid Newkirk

And all of this does not even take into consideration the enormous environmental impact of the raising of livestock for human consumption, yet this should be a grave concern for all civilized people who inhabit this planet. Our love affair with meat and their by-products is the most irresponsible stewardship that one could imagine in terms of feeding our population.

Parts After All Are Just Parts

You should also be aware that meat processing companies don’t waste any part of the cow, turkey, chicken, or pig, and most or all of these parts can potentially become incorporated into your juicy hot dog. Hooves, tails, tongues, lips, skin, meat, bones, blood, pus, and even brains. I don’t know about you, but I refuse to feed this to my family!

If you continue to ignore that the meat that is on your table was horrifically slaughtered, hung upside down to bleed to death, carved, and in the case of your hot dog, squeezed out of a carcass squeezing machine to form a paste and stuffed with cancer causing chemicals so that the sight and smell won’t make you vomit, then by all means eat and enjoy. In this writer’s opinion anyone who knows the truth and continues the practice of dead carcass consumption is either hooked on sodium nitrate and corn syrup and can’t quit, or actually possesses less intelligence than the turkey, cow, chicken, and pig whose parts were pasted together to make his or her lunch. I don’t know about you, but I have become progressively more nauseated as I have written this short blog and I would never even consider eating that crap!

On the lighter side I would like to wish each American a safe and happy Memorial Day. Many before us have freely given their lives so that we might enjoy the freedoms we so often take for granted. And a special thanks to all the men and woment that are serving their country on dangerous battlefields far away from home at this very moment. God Bless You!

Aspartame is present in thousands of processed and refined foods in the supermarket that you frequent. Diet sodas, artificial sweeteners, and sugarless gum might be the most recognizable providers of this toxic substance but they are not the only sources. It is the most prevalent sweetener in more than six thousand foods, beverages, multivitamins, cereals, frozen desserts, pharmaceutical drugs, and of course artificial sweeteners.

Independently funded studies are almost unanimous in their findings that aspartame causes a host of serious health problems to include: headaches and migraines, dizziness, nausea, seizures, muscle spasms, weight gain, depression, fatigue, insomnia, blindness, loss of hearing, asthma, anxiety, vertigo, tinnitus, and more.

Chronic diseases caused by the ingestion of Aspartame include: Diabetes, fibromyalgia, lymphoma, brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s disease, alzheimer’s, epilepsy, lymphoma, and birth defects just to name a few.

Aspartame is around ten percent methanol. Methanol is wood alcohol. Wood alcohol is a deadly poison. Remember moonshine? Many skid-row alcoholics have ended up blind or dead because of this poison. Once methanol is broken down in your body, one of the by-products is formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a deadly neurotoxin. Your can of diet coke provides about 180 mg of the deadly methanol. Methanol has a very low rate of excretion once it is absorbed so it is a poison that accumulates in the body. This accumulation is almost sure to cause severe negative health effects although they might fail to be attributed to the ingestion of the methanol present in aspartame. Nevertheless you can bet your bottom dollar that that is exactly what has caused the problems along with other bad dietary and lifestyle habits.

The health hazards of aspartame are many. If you begin to research this poison you will find an enormous list of very dangerous side effects. Actually about 75% of all the adverse reactions to food additives which are reported to the FDA are related to aspartame and some of these adverse reactions include seizures and death. You should not take my word for this but you definitely should conduct your own research into this dangerous product.

It is clear to this writer that aspartame is poison and is not safe for human consumption. It makes a lot of folks a whole bunch of money so you will have to dig just a little bit for the truth since the mainstream media will not be of any help here. They have long been owned or supported by big corporations responsible for the production, sale, and distribution of this and other very harmful chemical toxins found in our food supply. It will not, however, be difficult to ascertain the truth about this poison because aspartame has absolutely zero benefits and a boatload of bad health problems associated with it’s use.

Pharmaceutical drug adds sound so wonderful don’t they? They have the benevolent air of a kindly grandfather and the background music always makes me think of a warm spring day and a barefoot walk on wonderful smelling, full, thick, fresh cut grass. And when the “Flying Nun” is one of the spokespersons telling me that I am sick and in need of a magic pill, I just have to say I quickly become ripe and ready to plunk down my money and buy whatever it is she is selling. I mean she is almost a nun for heavens sake!

Of course the diseases that they have the solution for are not really diseases at all except in the fertile minds of Big Pharma hucksters, but when you are in the business of selling drugs, you have to have sick people to sell them to. And if someone is really not sick, then you have to mastermind a fictitious ailment. We now have an abundant list of new diseases because let’s face it, the pharmaceutical companies had new medications ready to sell. Since these new astronomically profitable medications need to be sold, then by golly a new disease better be invented to match the drug that is now ready to hit the market.

Restless leg syndrome? Serm deficiency? Here’s a good one, “statin deficiency.” Circadian Dysrhythmia (insomnia) is always a good disorder for multi-billion dollar profits! How about Gastric Reflux Disease! That sounds positively ghastly. It’s really just heartburn, but that certainly wouldn’t sell many pills. ADHD? Do you want to hear a strange phenomena? There were zero children in my catholic school back in the mid 60′s with ADHD, and it was a big school! Sister Mary Joseph of Our Lady Of Great Agony had a very large ruler and she was not afraid to use it and she was big enough to make it sting well into third period. That ruler in those days probably cost less than fifty cents and unless she inadvertently broke it on some child who was exhibiting signs of ADHD, she could cure that disease in every kid who ever came through the school for many many years for a measly fifty cents. You can’t even read the label of one of these magic pharmaceutical drugs for fifty cents. Now the parents of ADHD children are even being diagnosed with adult ADHD. This ought to be a real good cash cow, and the media who are on the advertising dole will surely help in the cause of making you believe you need medication for this new disease just as much as your kids do.

Keep in mind that every one of these magic pills are actually synthetic toxic chemicals that will certainly cause some nasty side effects. You should not be shocked at this because your body was never meant to ingest these synthetic poisons. When you shell out a 300,000 percent profit for a poison magic pill that is meant to cure a disease that you really don’t have, then you probably deserve to have a “bad trip man.”

You should do some research into the new diseases which are being rolled out by the insanely rich pharmaceutical companies and I am quite sure you will be able to find a disease and a pill that’s right for you. Your animal based diet, your love affair with high fat, high sugar, refined and processed dead foods, your constant dehydration because of always having a sugary beverage in your hand, your sedentary lifestyle, and the fast food restaurants that you frequent on a daily basis will certainly keep you in the doctors office. Once there you will be diagnosed with a bunch of dreamed up diseases which you cannot pronounce (your doctor is very likely on the dole also) as well as ones that your terrible dietary choices actually have caused such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

The good news amid the gloom, however, is that there is not one real or fictitious disease that cannot be cured by detoxification, healthy immune building nutrition, sunshine, pure, clean water, and a little exercise. These cures actually work on everything and there are zero side effects. Most are inexpensive or free, so the drug companies cannot sell them to you and that makes them a bit testy. Therefore their mistress, the FDA won’t let anyone speak the truth about the healing qualities found in whole fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, and seeds. But just because the FDA won’t allow the seller to put a sticker on your fresh orange which rightly touts the benefits of vitamin C and the other healthy vitamins and fiber present in that orange doesn’t mean it is not a cure for much that might ail you. Certainly healthy life giving food that was lovingly prepared by God just for you has got to trump frankenfood and synthetic poisons made in some mad scientist’s laboratory.

The above rambling by yours truly was probably not presented very well due to my limitations as an author. Nevertheless what has been said should really be common sense. Please don’t take my word for it though. Look into some of these issues and start to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and nutrient dense food. Look to your God given immune system for the healing of any and every disease (inlcuding cancer) and stop believing the hype of the poison pushers. They really couldn’t care less about your health. Their only concern is your pocketbook and they will spare nothing in their zeal to get at it. Why not take charge of your own health? In the final analysis, you are the only one who can.

It is already a well proven fact that lifestyle changes which focus on a healthy diet and a reasonable exercise program can lower the risk of heart disease by a whopping 80%. It is therefore in your best interests to take charge of your own health and make the necessary changes to avoid dying of a heart attack since this is an extremely unpleasant way to check out of this life. Just ask anyone who has witnessed a heart attack death to confirm the truth of this last statement.

Statin drugs are really bad for many reasons not the least of which is that they are ridiculously expensive. By the way, were you aware that Americans shelled out profits of over 26 billion dollars to drug companies last year on cholesterol lowering drugs alone? That is pure profit folks, and not just the gross amount of money spent by consumers. Did you know that drugs like Xanax boast a 500,000% (five hundred thousand percent) profit margin? I hope that makes you think long and hard about paying out your and your family’s hard earned dollars for drugs that will ultimately destroy your health.

The doctor’s guidelines for the “safe limit” of cholesterol has been pushed lower and lower every year so that if you are between 40 and 50 years of age it is almost certain that your doctor will tell you that your cholesterol level is too high and will therefore prescribe a cholesterol lowering drug. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry plays a very active roll in their universal high cholesterol diagnosis?.

It doesn’t matter that their guidelines are ridiculously low, what matters is that they place millions and millions of people on these dangerous and expensive drugs in the name of profit. The sad reality is that not one of their “customers” need these expensive drugs to lower their cholesterol and many do not even suffer from high cholesterol in the first place. It is nothing in the world but the zeal of the doctors to realize huge profits (greed) that causes them to diagnose great numbers of people with dangerously high cholesterol. In reality the levels that the Big Pharma drug companies set as a standard for normal cholesterol are actually dangerously low and cause serious health problems. Cholesterol is a function of the body and dangerously low levels will cause major problems in an otherwise healthy life.

The extent to which big pharmaceutical drug companies will go to capture your business is ludicrous. Be assured, however, that the drug policies that they set forth are profit driven and profit driven only. They do not now, nor will they ever have your health and wellness in view. They want a large share of your and your family’s lifesavings and will stop at nothing to get it.

The question is: Are statin drugs necessary for optimum health or are they actually dangerous? A quick look at the side effects on statin drug labels as well as some un-biased research ought to give you a clue as to their overall safety. I will name just a few of the bad side effects here but keep in mind that this is a very limited list and many more dangers could be added. No doubt the danger list grows with every independent study of the effects of statins on human health. Some prominent health concerns include:

- Headaches
- Nausea
- Stomach pain and diarrhea
- Muscle pain and weakness
- Elevated liver enzymes
- Muscle inflammation
- Liver and kidney damage
- Memory loss
- Increase risk of eye cataract
- Suppression of immune function
- Nerve damage
- Death

The above list (though not exhaustive) should give every sane person pause. It is vital that we wake up to the fact that the draining of our nation’s wealth is directly related to our love affair with statin drugs. Actually we don’t love them but have been duped into believing we need them. The fact is that we don’t need them and would realize a marked increase in wellness if these expensive pills were boycotted.

In the case of high cholesterol for instance, a return to a plant-based diet including whole raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds would do more to lower cholesterol than a trillion dollars worth of statin drugs and this dietary change comes with absolutely no bad side effects unless of course you consider optimum wellness a bad side effect. Add to a balanced plant-based diet plenty of pure water, sunshine, fresh air, and reasonable exercise, and high cholesterol is no longer an issue. This type of lifestyle will also cancel obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, and many other dread diseases that are ravaging and bankrupting our great nation.

The bottom line is that you can save your money and your health by shunning the use of expensive statin drugs and beginning to adopt a healthy lifestyle that starts with good nutrition and reasonable amounts of exercise. I believe that our society is all too ready to believe the hype of the drug companies because we want to cure what ails us with the ease of just “popping a pill.” Drug companies capitalize on this type of thinking and provide us with all the pills we need for just about any supposed physical or psychological malady imaginable. The problem is that these pills do more harm than good.

Why not take control of your own health and quit putting it into the hands of huge drug companies that couldn’t care less about your overall well being? These drug companies will continue to make insane amounts of profits as long as we as a society continue to buy into their hype. Worse yet, health care costs are bankrupting this country and we as a nation are becoming more and more unhealthy with every passing year. By taking control of our own health through sensible lifestyle changes we can reverse this trend in a very short time.

Start making lifestyle changes that promote good health and save your money for things like taking a vacation. Your life will be much more fulfilling when you are experiencing optimum health. Although these lifestyle changes cost nothing they will provide numerous benefits that will last a lifetime. It all starts with a decision and a commitment. I hope for the sake of you, your family, and our great nation, that you make a decision and a commitment today.

The benefits of omega-3 fatty acids cannot be denied. It is certain that those who incorporate these essential fatty acids into their diet are aiding in their own heart protection as well as lowering the risk of heart attack, reducing their risk of stroke, and even helping to keep body weight in check. In addition, healthy omega 3 fatty acid slows the buildup of atherosclerotic plaques (hardening of the arteries) and lowers blood pressure. Besides these benefits, adequate amounts of omega-3s are also linked to brain health, joint health, support of muscle building, memory, and learning support, reduction of inflamation, anti-aging, balance of blood sugar, healthy immune system, skin health, and much more. Clearly the intake of adequate amounts of healthy omega-3 fat is critical to maintaining good health, but can vegans get adequate amounts of this essential fat? The simple answer to this question is a resounding “yes.”

Of course most of us know that some of the best sources of these essential fatty acids are fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, and sardines. But for those of us who do not consume animal flesh there are still many sources of these vital fatty acids. Actually the consumption of vegetarian omega-3s might be more beneficial since there are absolutely no negatives associated with their consumption. In the case of fatty fish for instance, one must also admit a high cholesterol intake as well as dangerous levels of mercury.

When it comes to a healthy plant based intake of omega-3 fatty acids these negatives are not present. Nevertheless it is essential that vegetarians and vegans are conscious of the necessity of incorporating these wonderfully healthy omega 3 fatty acids into their diets since these fats are not produced by the human body.

In the vegetable kingdom, flaxseed is doubtless one of the finest sources of omega-3. Just one rounded tablespoon of milled flaxseed provides 2000 mg of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This is the essential fatty acid that humans cannot make. Flaxseed also provides valuable cancer fighting lignans and huge amounts of dietary fiber which cannot be said for fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel or sardines.

Other great food sources of omega-3 fatty acids include:
-walnuts
-Brazil nuts
-butternuts
-chia seeds
-pumpkin seeds
-flax seed oil
-canola oil
-hickory nuts
-spinach
-kale, and other green leafy vegetables
-oat and wheat germ
-soybean and soybean sprouts
-tofu
-various types of beans
-peanuts
-olives, and olive oil
-spirulina
-walnuts

The positive benefits of omega-3 fatty acids are too many to count but it is not correct to say that these essential fats are limited to those who consume animal by-products and fish. Non-animal sources of these fatty acids are numerous and therefore it is not necessary that vegetarians and vegans should be to any degree deficient in omega-3s. It is necessary, however, that those who practice a healthy vegetarian/vegan diet be conscious of their intake of these vital fats. If those of us who adhere to the healthiest diet known to man (plant based) are mindful of the need of essential omega-3 fats, we can confidently continue to shun all animal flesh while enjoying the many health benefits of a strictly plant based diet.

The reason for the use of hormones and antibiotics is purely economical. Hormones make sure the animal grows faster and produces more milk or eggs which means more profit. Antibiotics are administered in large doses because of the miserable conditions animals are forced to endure. They live their whole lives standing in their own excrement, and the extreme confinement causes them to fight which leads to abrasions, so daily doses of antibiotics help to minimize losses because of infections. Bacteria becomes resistant to these daily doses of antibiotics, nevertheless you ingest these hormones and antibiotics and bacteria with every bite of meat you you eat.

Battery Cages

A battery cage typically measures only about twenty by twenty inches. As many as ten birds are crowded into these cages for the entirety of their lives. These are the conditions that every laying hen experiences so that you can have your eggs for breakfast. These birds will never even spread their wings or do one natural thing before their untimely death at slaughter. The cages are stacked on top of each other and the birds are forced to stand on sloping wire floors so that the eggs are enabled to roll out. Standing on these wire floors for a lifetime causes terrible injury to the birds feet and they live in constant pain. It is utterly horrifying to consider the abuses laying hens experience in life and in death but for all the horrors every animal endures at the hands of the factory farm the laying hens might have it the worst.

Tail Docking And Debeaking

Because of the propensity to fight due to the brutal confinement, tail docking and debeaking is the normal means of cutting down on losses that this fighting would naturally cause. Debeaking is the process of cutting the chickens beak off and this without any anesthesia. It is impossible to imagine how painful this would be and many chickens can no longer eat after the procedure because of the intense pain so they literally starve to death.

Pigs are housed in small crates for the entirety of their lives and docking the tails prevents them from biting off the tail of the pig in the crate directly in front of them. This is also done without anesthesia and is cruelly painful.

Veal Crates

After the cow gives birth the male calves are stolen from their whaling mother so as not to drink up any of the hormone and antibiotic laced milk that is meant for you and your family. They are confined in tiny veal crates that are too small to so much as move. This is where they will spend the entirety of their very short lives and then they will be brutally slaughtered in order to become your artery clogging and very expensive veal cutlet.

Gestation Crates

A sow used for breeding spends her whole life in a steel barred crate too small to even turn around in. She is artificially inseminated (raped) time and again so as to produce one litter after another. When she is finally worn and spent and therefore no longer useful she will be sent off to a horrible and terrifying slaughter.

These are just some of the abuses that animals endure at the hands of the factory farms that you support every time you eat a bite of meat. These animals are viciously abused in life and the transport to slaughter and then the actual killing are so cruel that it is unbearable to think about much less witness.

If you have any concern at all for the humane treatment of all sentient beings then you owe it to yourself and the animals that share our planet to find out about these abuses. If you find out for yourself what these animals endure in life, and then death, and it does not change your heart forever, then it is probably because a heart is conspicuously absent in you. If you remain in ignorance about these issues and continue to consume animals and their by-products your ignorance does not absolve you of guilt or responsibility. It would be hard to live in the twenty first century without having at least some idea of how your meat gets to your table. Therefore the average Americans ignorance is not the result of a lack of knowing but a lack of caring. I hope this cannot be said about you.

According to a recent NPR report, laws in the States of Florida and Iowa would make it illegal to take photos or videos of livestock facilities without the owners permission and doing so would be classed as a felony. A Minnesota bill is taking it even further. This bill doesn’t just make it a felony to take undercover photos at livestock facilities, but would also make it illegal to distribute or even possess them. I don’t know about you but the implications of such tyrannical laws first scares me, and then makes my blood boil.

It would be one thing if ample evidence did not exist as to business as usual at factory farms around the globe. Every time a camera makes its way into one of these places the most horrendous atrocities are uncovered and these are not isolated incidents either, they happen all the time and they happen everywhere. I find it hard to believe that any civilized person with any measure of human kindness could witness a day in the life of a laying hen, or a milk cow, or a pig, without literally breaking down and crying like a baby. And that’s exactly why these huge factory farms do not want the wrong element in there. The wrong element being anyone with a camera and a heart.

Kansas and Montana have already passed into law these types of bills but they all have one thing in common and one goal; to protect the big agricultural business bottom line at all costs. The Minnesota bill should not have any trouble passing since it is being proposed by a state legislator who was formerly the president of the Minnesota Pork Producers and is still an active member today. I wonder if he will receive any perks for making sure this bill passes? Nah, he wouldn’t take compensation from a multi-billion dollar industry (his industry) for abusing his office now would he?

I know that the brave souls that are risking much to uncover atrocities inflicted on animals and the environment get all sorts of malicious labels attached to themselves and their activities. I only wish I had the guts to suffer more persecution for such a cause. But I can assure you dear reader that the poor animals that suffer untold heinous abuses each and every day of their artificially shortened lives have no voice. They will have no voice when they are brutally transported to slaughter and they will have no voice when they are mercilessly put to an agonizing death. The only chance they have is when someone cares enough to take a huge risk and uncover these evils. Generally all it takes is to make civilized and compassionate people aware of the suffering and terror that goes into every bite of the meat they ingest before there is first a change of heart that leads to a change of actions.

If you would classify yourself as a civilized and compassionate human being yet you remain unaware of the brutality that is omnipresent at every farm factory in America, then it is probably time that you take your head out of the sand and find out how the meat got to your table. Ingrid Newkirk summed it up quite succinctly when she said, “…recognize meat for what it really is: the antibiotic and pesticide laden corpse of a tortured animal.” If you have recognized this and still care to indulge in your love affair with meat then surely innocent blood is on your hands. But I pray that at least you won’t get in the way of brave folks who are risking much to bring to public attention that which you are causing by your food choices.

If you are one of the growing number of Americans who believe that good health begins with healthy food choices, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and wish you a long, healthy, and prosperous life.

If you are like me, you probably have begun to do a lot of label reading at the supermarket to assure yourself that you are making the healthiest food choices for you and your family. You might even be much more comforted when you see the word “natural” on the label. You probably believe as I did for quite some time that the word “natural” means that you will not be eating anything artificial. This, however, is unfortunately not the case.

In my estimation the most unnatural foods on the planet are GM (genetically modified) foods. Did you know that these foods which contain mutated DNA and proteins are allowed to be labeled as natural?

The FDA unleashed GMO foods on the public and did so without any labeling to inform consumers what it was that they were buying. They have seen fit to do this even though there have been no human safety studies done. The only studies have been animal studies, and these have revealed a plethora of adverse health problems. This human experiment on a global scale will doubtless prove to be the worst health and environmental mistake in the history of humanity.

Since the FDA chose to release these foods on consumers everywhere without labeling, it is imperative that you take the necessary precautions to protect you and your family from these dangerous abominations that have permeated our food supply.

Try to buy certified organic products since they cannot intentionally include any GMO ingredients. Look for labels that say “100 percent organic,” “organic,” or “made with organic ingredients.” You should also keep your eyes open for non GMO project seals. When foods boast these seals they are verified to be in compliance with the only North American standard for GMO avoidance.

In this writer’s opinion, when the FDA chose to foist this human experiment on its unsuspecting citizenry, they denied us one of the most fundamental and basic rights that all men and women should possess without compromise. That is the right to know and choose what foods you put in your body and the right not to be used as a human guinea pig without your consent. If someone “slipped you a Mickey” you would be understandably upset. It is a very bad thing when someone knowingly alters your beverage with an unknown and undesirable substance. It is even worse when the government alters the totality of the food supply with dangerous, unproven, and untested genetically modified food and doesn’t tell you about it, much less give you the chance to say no to it.

It is of utmost importance that we individually, and as a nation, stand up and make our voice heard about this horrible abuse of power and demand labeling of the foods that we buy so that we can make an informed choice about what it is we are feeding ourselves and our families. When polled, eight out of ten Americans would shun GMO food if they had the chance. Let us make dead sure we are given that chance.

I enjoy researching and writing articles about health and have developed some strong convictions along the way. I really don’t like to publicly admit this but I believe at times I get a little “over the top” when it comes to things to avoid. Let’s face it, we live in an increasingly toxic environment, and we eat an increasingly toxic diet. It would be virtually impossible to immunize ourselves from everything that might be considered harmful to our health, and longevity. I also admit that I myself have often become overwhelmed at the many precautions I know I should be taking in order to facilitate optimum health but just can’t stir up the inner motivation to carry them all out.

Some of the toxic substances that I know I should be avoiding for my sake and the health of my family are found in the general cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies, and cosmetics my wife and I buy for ourselves and our family . I just have to admit, I like nice smelling shampoo, antiperspirant, deodorant soap, toothpaste, lotions, dish washing soap, bleach, Comet, and of course my wife has enough cosmetics to start a beauty salon.

I also know that an air purifier would be a good investment, but to be honest as yet I don’t have one and I do continue to buy the above listed hygiene and cleaning supplies and my wife still buys her cosmetics. I use a cheap carbon water filter on my faucet because I am convinced that our tap water is loaded with many unhealthy toxins yet I shun the very expensive systems, because let’s face it, I am living paycheck to paycheck just like many other Americans I know.

I buy mainly organic fruits and vegetables and that in itself becomes a very costly endeavor. I am not sure why I opt for these and not air purifiers and expensive water purifying systems but that is my reality at this writing. I believe that the elimination of the bad and the addition of the good of all of the above would be a great step in a more healthy direction, and yet I just don’t ever seem to find the time or money to locate the hygiene, cosmetic, and cleaning supplies (and maybe I don’t really know where to look) that would be more compatible with health and wellness.

Maybe there is a part of me that knows that if I take it to the next level, I would be the type who would become completely obsessed. I would then have to rule out just about everything in life. I have no problem, however, admitting that our houses and apartments are toxic wastelands and I would never tout the benefits of many of the products that I use because I know they are not the best choices for me, my family or the environment.

My process towards better health choices has been an evolution. I realized about 3 years ago that for me, animal flesh and their by-products were a very unhealthy choice and I no longer partake of meat or dairy. I also realized that when I made a choice to eat meat and dairy, an animal necessarily suffered horribly because of my decision, and the environment paid a heavy toll also.

Some might interpret the evolution of my new way of thinking and doing as hypocritical believing that I should go all the way or not at all and maybe they are right. Nevertheless in my travels I have found that good people sometimes hold convictions (even strong ones) that they are never able to fully live up to although they never stop striving to do so. In my case, I will continue to learn and grow and I am sure I will make plenty of mistakes along the way. But God willing I shall never give up the fight for better health, physically, emotionally, and above all spiritually, and I hope that my loved ones, friends, and neighbors are able to bear with my inconsistencies as I continue to try and move forward in a positive direction.

Does The FDA Protect Public Health Or Big Pharmaceutical Companies Financial Interests?

“The FDA’s mission is to promote and protect the public health by helping safe and effective products reach the market in a timely way, and monitoring products for continued safety after they are in use. Our work is a blending of law and science aimed at protecting consumers.” This of course is according to the FDA.

The FDA’s role has clearly changed since big pharmaceutical companies began manufacturing synthetic drugs which Americans have shelled out over a trillion dollars for. These drugs have never cured anything and they never will. All they do is mask symptoms. All of them come with a laundry list of side effects that should scare every thinking person to death. Instead of the FDA protecting the public health by banning these synthetic pills that merely hide symptoms, they blindly say yes to every new pill coming down the pike and rush to foist them on the American citizenry.

Why are these dangerous drugs rubber stamped and approved by the FDA while suppression of inexpensive and very effective natural therapies seems to be their real job? The answer is the more than one trillion dollars that Americans have paid drug companies for these symptom masking pills. That is precisely why the FDA’s mission has changed from protection of the public to protection of the financial interests of pharmaceutical companies.

Synthetic drugs have caused the death of millions of people and will continue to do so in the future. As stated above they have never healed one disease and they never will. Vitamin C is a cure for scurvy and this is universally known, however the FDA won’t let you say this. If the truth be told Vitamin C is probably a cure for many diseases but since it is inexpensive and drug companies don’t stand to make a profit off of it this information is suppressed under penalty of law.

A diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans and seeds, is a health promoting diet and many natural health practitioners have used detoxification and immune system supporting diets to cure heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and countless other infirmities. If drug companies could patent fresh fruit you can bet that the FDA would allow labeling that states that these foods heal disease. Since these billion dollar companies cannot patent an orange, the FDA does not allow statements about the oranges ability to heal.

In this writer’s opinion the FDA no longer serves the public but rather the only entities being served are big pharmaceutical companies. Therefore the FDA is actually causing health problems instead of stopping them. They serve no purpose other than protection of the trillion dollar drug company industry and our tax dollars support this rogue agency.

There exists a nutritional cure for almost every major disease but the FDA does not want you to know about them. They are in the business of keeping Americans chronically ill which results in huge profits for the drug companies. These companies are actually who the FDA serves but they have long since stopped serving you and I.
